About Rob

I’ve always believed that great storytelling starts with connection, the kind that makes you feel something long before you realize why. Whether it’s through a single look, a flicker of light, or the rhythm of an edit, emotion drives everything I create.

I founded MVRCK (Maverick) Media™ to build more than a production company. It’s a way of working… a mindset. Based in Bend, Oregon, and serving Boise and beyond, I’ve spent more than a decade crafting cinematic stories and photography that blend artistry, emotion, and precision.

From Avionics to Aerials

Before filmmaking, I served as an F-16 avionics technician in the U.S. Air Force and later joined Lockheed Martin on the F-35 program. That world taught me focus, discipline, and how to stay calm when there is no room for error. Those lessons still shape every shoot I lead today.

In 2014, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Cinematography from Full Sail University and launched my own company. My first documentary, Warbird Pilot: Behind the Visor, became a Vimeo Staff Pick, won multiple film festivals, and received the ASC Heritage Award in 2015 for Best Documentary. That project ignited my passion for emotional cinematography and authentic, human storytelling… and marked the start of my journey as an independent filmmaker.

A Cinematic Eye for Authenticity

Every decision, from lens choice to lighting ratio to how long I hold a look, comes down to one thing: honesty.

I believe filmmaking isn’t just about showing something beautiful; it’s about helping people believe it. The way you light a face, the way you move a camera, the silence between cuts… that is where storytelling lives.

My photography carries that same energy. While long-exposure fine-art work is my personal passion, I also love the pace and connection of portrait and commercial photography. You only get a few minutes, sometimes seconds, to earn someone’s trust and capture who they are. That challenge, that intensity, is addictive. I love the moment when a client looks at their images and says, “These are the best photos I’ve ever had.”

The MacGyver Mindset

On set, I’ve been called a lot of things, but “normal” isn’t one of them.

I’m not the person who follows trends just because everyone else does. I’m the one asking, “Does that actually make the story better?” I believe in problem solving through creativity, not just convention.

If something is missing, I will figure it out. If gear fails, we adapt. If a concept hits a wall, we find another path. My sister once said I have always been a bit of a MacGyver, and she’s right. Whether it’s rigging camera gear, rethinking a lighting setup, or re-engineering a scene on the fly, that is what drives me.

That is the Maverick way: not breaking rules for the sake of it, but bending them intelligently to make something honest, effective, and cinematic.

Independent by Nature

Since 2014, I have worked independently, growing what is now MVRCK (Maverick) Media™, a veteran-owned creative company built on collaboration, integrity, and adaptability.

We do not chase trends or inflate crews just to look impressive. We chase truth. Whether we are working with agencies, brands, or other production companies, we check the egos at the door, solve problems fast, and focus on results that move people.

What We Create

  • Commercial & Brand Filmmaking: from concept through post-production

  • Photography: commercial, lifestyle, fine-art, portrait, senior, and long-exposure

  • Automotive & Outdoor: high-speed tracking, lifestyle campaigns, and adventure storytelling

  • Drone / Aerial Cinematography: FAA Part 107 certified operations, cinematic 4K footage, motorsports, and real-estate work

At MVRCK (Maverick) Media™, the goal has never been to do things the way everyone else does. It is to do them honestly, creatively, and differently.

Whether I am in the air, on the ground, or behind the monitor, my mission is simple…
to tell stories that connect, honestly, creatively, and boldly.
